How Important Is Termite Control?

Termites are insects, which possess a very small body, that is usually quite pale and they prefer to thrive in colonies of large numbers in earthen mounds. A large number of termite species are detrimental for timber and wooden structures. Their colonies are divided into two basic distinctions with most of the members of the colony playing the role of the "soldier" or the "worker". The other distinction is the "queen" termite which is the termite that has the maximum age inside the colony.
We have to be careful so as to make sure that termite is not allowed to infest our structures and/or furniture at all and we should be having pest inspection done at regular intervals to ascertain if there is any or if there is a chance of any termites. This would go a long way in ensuring effective Termite Control. It is very hard to spot terminal damage in the early stages. It is silent, gradual damage that takes a good amount of time before being actually visible but by then the structural integrity of the infested structure is already beyond repair.

Signs Of Termite Infestation:

Termite Control
Pest Inspection is an important tool to keep the termites at bay so that your home is always perfect. Professional and certified inspectors look for signs that indicate a perfect haven for termites to thrive in. A few other these are,
  • Known as "Swarmers or "Reproductives", young winged termites, both male and female emerge during spring to mate and then start on a hunt for a new area where they can form a new colony. Dead carcasses of these Swarmers or the wings that have fallen off them accumulate in heaps on windowsills and at doors. This is one of the most evident signs of a termite colony nearby.
  • Termites, while in search of food create structures similar to a tube, while boring through earthen mound(s). These tube-like structures are responsible for the provision of moisture and known as Mud Tubes. These structures are more commonly located close to the foundations of the building.
  • Paint, when it starts to bubble up and then become uneven is a clear indication of high levels of moisture present at that location. Generally, this can be caused by water damage and/or termites.
  • Termites owing to the fact that they devour wooden structures from the inside out, one would not generally be able to see it till it's too late. However, another way Pest Inspection for Termite Control is carried out is tapping on wooden structures from time to time. Termite infested wood sounds hollow, as the termites have eaten out the inside(s) and it is basically empty inside.
  • Certain species of termite like those feeding on dry wood are the produce droppings that have a wooden color owing to the infested wood that they gorge on. They look like small pellets and are a clear marker for pest inspectors to identify the damaged area and control the termite infestation from spreading.

Methods For Effective Termite Control:

Deciding on the best course of action to combat termites requires a meeting between the pest inspector(s) and the owner of the infected structure. The owner can choose between several naturals, man-made and chemical solutions. Before any kind of substance is used the owner should have the chance to decide whether or not he/she wants such substances to enter their home at all.
Termite Control
  • Worms that are parasitic by nature and known as "Nematodes" are a great deterrent for termites. These worms devour termites after they are released onto the target area. They continue to reproduce till all termites are killed off making them extremely effective for termite control. The number of nematodes required varies directly with the amount of infestation that has taken place.
  • Better known as the humble "Borax Powder", Sodium Borate holds the power to impressively eliminate any and all traces of termite infestation. It can be applied in both powder form (sprinkled on top) or sprayed onto the target infested area after being mixed with water.
  • Perimeter Barriers are artificial man-made barriers planted into the ground after trenches are dug out around the target structure. This can be a bit labor-intensive but the results are fabulous.
Termites are an irritating and ultimately dangerous problem that needs proper termite control and which if not nipped in the bud, can lead to heavy loss of property.
