Best Way for Cleaning Venetian Blinds

Originally from Venice, these blinds used to be the mark of posh society. They are horizontal and can be moved up or down using cords. Nowadays, there are cordless options as well. Additionally, they are durable and helpful in providing a uniform look. However, since these are horizontal blinds, dust can settle on them quickly. While they can be wiped clean, sometimes they require more careful cleaning. It is particularly so in the rainy season.

Here are some tried and tested steps to clean Venetian Blinds

  • Decide What Kind of Cleaning is Required

You must first understand whether your blinds require light or heavy cleaning. That said, you should regularly light clean your blinds. This will help save your money and time in the long run.

  • Light Cleaning

In this method, you only need a duster or a cloth. However, use materials or tools which are specifically manufactured for blinds. For example, a feather duster works well on this type of blind. Make sure you work your way through each string and horizontal panel. Start from the center so that you do not spread the dust instead of cleaning it.

Moreover, once your cleaning tool is dirty, you must clean the dirt or replace it with another tool. Do not forget to flip the blinds so that you can clean them from the other side. Also, be gentle on your Venetian blinds to keep them looking clean and beautiful.

  • Vacuum cleaning

Another method is to vacuum clean your blinds. Ensure that you attach a duster to your vacuum cleaner. You must follow this step so that you do not damage your blinds or leave out any dirt. Using the vacuum cleaner without a duster could pull out parts from your blinds.

While you are cleaning, hold the horizontal slats of the blinds. As these blinds are gentle, they can move from the suction created by your vacuum cleaning. Hence, holding the blinds is imperative.

  • Scrubbing

Do you know what the toughest part of cleaning is? It is removing stains. While some are easy to remove with appropriate cleaning agents, some stains are stubborn. Nothing seems to work against these adamant stains.

If you have some stains on your Venetian Blinds, you might be tempted to use water. However, you must remember that water does not dissolve everything. Also, water may damage the wood on your blinds. Instead, use wood cleaners to scrub the slats of your blinds. While scrubbing, move horizontally from the center and not apply too much pressure. Otherwise, you might damage them.

Once you have finished cleaning, you must dry them. Use a cloth to absorb any excess moisture. Leaving behind any moist portion would mean potentially causing damage to your blinds. At the least, it will lower their durability.

  • Deep Cleaning

To deep clean the Venetian Blinds, you must first remove them from your windows and place them in a tub. Make sure that you have a towel on your tub so that you do not scratch the blinds. Then, add a cleaning solution to warm water and let the blinds soak it. You may also need to scrub the blinds after soaking, depending on how dirty they are. Once this is done, rinse them with cold water. Keep rinsing till all the liquid solution comes off. You must understand that any remaining solution can damage the blinds.

Further, confirm that they dry before putting them back in place.

Conclusion:

Venetian Blinds are beautiful and versatile, but they require maintenance. If you want them to keep looking gorgeous all year round, it is best to light clean them every day. In addition, you can deep clean them once a year or as required. Regular cleaning would also ensure that they have minimal stains.
