A Guidebook On Plaster Beads

When you plan to build a new house for your client, as a contractor, you ensure that everything needs to be perfect, from the foundation to the rooftop. Once the foundation is completed and your labourers start working to give the finishing touch, you never miss structuring uniform edges. The corners or edges of the building should be knock-resistant, robust, smooth and straight. Therefore, a plasterer uses plaster beads for the long-lasting and superb finishing of the edges. These beads will help in getting that perfect finishing and clean outcomes. Let’s take a tour of how to use them while plastering and what additional tools you may require, including plaster beads.

Points To Remember Before Buying Plaster Beads

Why do you need them? Before implementation, the foremost step is to buy these beads, understanding your requirement. It would be best to keep a note of specific points before purchasing it, as there are varieties available. These may vary in terms of material, quality, size, thickness, even on the basis of location.

What material you need for which place? The commonly used materials are galvanised steel, stainless steel and polyvinyl chloride unplasticised. The first type of beads is best for the internal locations, while the remaining are suitable for both interior and exterior areas. The stainless steel and PVCu beads have high resistance against moisture and natural corrosion. The PVCu plaster beads can bear challenging environmental factors, unaffected by chemical attacks, weather, salt etc.Every material holds a specific quality that makes them unique from each other. For example, stainless steel products are rigid, robust, durable, and you can only apply them in straight lines. On the other hand, PVCu made beads are easy to install and UV resistant, making them more favourable than galvanised steel products for outside areas.

What designs you prefer? In addition to it, the plaster can choose specific designs or engineered beads available as per requirement. These include plaster stop beads, arch beads, architrave beads, render stop beads, etc. Hence, selecting the suitable plaster beads for the work is an important step to achieve delicacy in work and durability.

Steps To Use Plaster Beads

These are some simple steps you can follow using plaster beads for plastering:

● With the help of a level, you can check if the wall is maintaining symmetry on the edges. If you find a gap between wall and level, then you will require a plaster bead/external angle to make the edges straight.

● Measure the height of the wall so that you can cut the plaster beads to the correct height.

● Once you chop off these beads, you can now place them into the location you are doing plastering. Make sure to find a place that has a more plain surface and, with the help of a staple gun fix the beads to the corners. If you don’t have a staple gun, use a hammer to attach it with the nails aligning with the wall.

● Now prepare a plaster with appropriate consistency for the base coating.

● Using a hawk or trowel, apply the plaster starting from the middle position of the wall from where you will move in a downwards direction. Then smooth the surface by moving the trowel in an upwards direction. Now on the other top remaining side, go from the bottom towards the upward direction.

● Make the surface smooth and wait for the first layering to dry. Afterwards, apply the second coating but cover a bit more expansive area. Repeat the same action for the topcoat by applying it to a broader surface after the second coat dries.

Once the plaster topcoat dries, it becomes ready to paint. Hence, using plaster beads, the application of applying to the coat becomes very smooth.
